Edward Penniman House (MWT)

DSC_0322

The Edward Penniman House sits on the road to Fort Hill in Eastham, Massachusetts out on Cape Cod. It was built by Edward Penniman in 1868 after he ran away in 1842 at age 11 to make his fortune at sea as a whaler.

DSC_0324Built in the French second Empire Style, it has a mansard roof with a lead-lined rainwater cistern in the attic and indoor plumbing.  A whale’s jaw bone befittingly forms the gate to the property.

DSC_0325 The cupola overlooks both bay and sea.

DSC_0326Though a bit of moss can be seen growing on the siding, the National Park Service is in the process of restoring the building, which is a local and historic landmark.

DSC_0327 If you continue on the road past the Penniman house you will come to Fort Hill and Nauset Marsh, a great place to go bird watching! And that’s…

My World Tuesday!
