Who’s Nesting?

MODO in rafters-kab
Mourning Dove in rafters of my back porch 9-5-12 Tucson, AZ
The days are flying by. I can hardly believe I have already been here for 2 weeks! Still there are boxes to be unpacked. Still there are things that need to be bought. Still there are things that need to be done! The nest is not ready yet!
This Mourning Dove was already in her nest up in the rafters when I arrived 2 weeks ago. I have not seen or heard any babies yet, but she keeps patiently sitting. She watches me warily out of the corner of her eye, yet she has nothing to fear from me. However, I am sure my noisy grandson causes her some grief when he comes to visit, but she will just have to get used to him too! He’s part of my nest now and I love having him around!
I did take a break yesterday morning and go birding at Agua Caliente Park here in Tucson. Chris Rohrer of the blog, Las Aventuras met me there and we had such a great time birding! I have so many stories to tell and so little time. It seems harder than ever to get things unpacked and organized and I feel so guilty when I sit down to blog when there is still so much to be done. I do take a break almost every morning when I get up. That is when I make myself a cup of tea and sit on the balcony and watch birds. Since I have put out my bird hummingbird feeders I am getting more hummingbirds. The most frequent visitors are Anna's hummingbirds. At first I was only getting the females, then the males moved in with their rosy pink gorgets flashing in the sun. Occasionally I get a black-chinned or a broad-tailed. I have not seen a broad-billed hummingbird as of yet.
I still have bouts of sadness when I think of my brothers, sister and Mom back east. I miss them so much but I am trying to settle in and enjoy this desert life once again. Currently we are experiencing the monsoon, which has lingered longer than expected. One day last week the weatherman reported that we had broken a record for the most moisture in the atmosphere over Tucson on one day that has ever been recorded since they started keeping records! They say the monsoon will dry up and end this week, but I am reluctant to believe it. Weather has a way of doing what it wants to, so we shall see!
For those who are interested, I have 2 new posts up:
