Love the plaver shots, but the one that really catches my eye is the gull just before the birdlist. There was no such fancy visitor center when I cut my teeth birding there in the late 70's and early 80's!
You put out a FB call for ID help, and I'd love to help (though I suspect that Birding is Fun has already done it). Yes, those are semipalmated plovers. The easiest way to tell is that semipal plovers have backs the color of wet sand, and piping plovers are the color of dry sand. This time of year, you won't see much black on a piping plover at all. In winter plumage, they're like the pale ghost of their summer selves, and the big black breastband is muted.
Thank you for taking me back to Plum Island, Kathie!Julie Zickefoosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06654698829603424649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4773600389646021892.post-28972531164440325402010-11-05T07:09:53.578-04:002010-11-05T07:09:53.578-04:00Wonderful post Kathie..Glad you made it to Plum Is...Wonderful post Kathie..Glad you made it to Plum Island..I love it there..you are sooooo close now..you must go several times!Dawn Finehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320576787003821586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4773600389646021892.post-17704217529858949292010-11-03T07:23:33.284-04:002010-11-03T07:23:33.284-04:00Can you e-mail me?
