On November 5th Gus and I drove to Norridgewock and while he visited with his parents, I went out birding at various locations. One of my favorite spots to bird is at Oosoola Park at the junction of routes 2 and 139. There is ample parking along the bank with a public boat launch and a playground for kids.
Usually I just stay near the boat launch, but this time I walked past the playground and discovered the park is really on a bit of a peninsula. While there were not a lot of birds, I did see a few species (see list below).
I am told that the name Norridgewock is from an Abenaki word meaning, “smooth water between two rapids.” Well, Autumn is rapidly waning, and winter is rapidly approaching. These were truly the last leaves of autumn, for when my husband returned to Norridgewock this past weekend he said there were no leaves left on the trees. Brace yourselves…here comes winter!

Hi Kathie
ReplyDeleteI loved the first photo of the bald eagle with the red tree. The rest of your shots with the beautiful fall colours are wonderful as well. We just never get that kind of colour here.
Regards
Guy
Oh guy, I feel so sorry for you! When the light comes through the trees like this it is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteKathie, this is a most colorful example of what I imagine fall on east to be. The light through the leaves reminds me of stained glass. All so very different than the SW.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not ready for winter.
Gaelyn, this is the northeast in all it's glory and so pretty to see, though a cold wind was blowing! Still, I hope you can see it someday. And I am not ready for winter either!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and nice to see fall again!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGary, thanks!
ReplyDeleteLovely Autumn colors, Kathie! The park looks like a beautiful place to bird and to see the scenery. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent pictures, Kathie! Autumn is my favourite season and I still have many enjoyable memories from a road trip in the USA during October/November several years ago. The colours of the foliage are quite amazing!

Such gorgeous colors and your photos are fantastic, Kathie! I do know that fall in some parts of the world is without a doubt one of the most glorious seasons of the year -- that's certainly true of your part of the world as it is mine. Our colors this year -- like yours have been awesome! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
