On November 5th Gus and I drove to Norridgewock and while he visited with his parents, I went out birding at various locations. One of my favorite spots to bird is at Oosoola Park at the junction of routes 2 and 139. There is ample parking along the bank with a public boat launch and a playground for kids.
You can see the new Norridgewock bridge from this location.
In this quiet backwater I often find ducks or a kingfisher.
I discovered this plaque along the riverbank. I had not noticed it before.
Usually I just stay near the boat launch, but this time I walked past the playground and discovered the park is really on a bit of a peninsula. While there were not a lot of birds, I did see a few species (see list below).

I am told that the name Norridgewock is from an Abenaki word meaning, “smooth water between two rapids.” Well, Autumn is rapidly waning, and winter is rapidly approaching. These were truly the last leaves of autumn, for when my husband returned to Norridgewock this past weekend he said there were no leaves left on the trees. Brace yourselves…here comes winter!
