Come follow me through the neighborhood,
where the path leads into the park,
and walk past the vernal pools, dark, calm, and reflective.
Pause with me to look at a nest and listen to the Ovenbird sing,
before we head down the trail towards the Shawsheen River
flowing full and green.
Come follow me on the river bank,
to where the red-tailed hawk likes to hide, deep in the woodland.
And the wood ducks rest on the logs in the river,
While up above the the traffic rushes by on Route 495!
So many cars, so many people, all going somewhere else.
Even the rush of the river cannot overcome the roar of the traffic,
But down the bank in a quiet pool the mallard feeds peacefully.
And as the sun tries to break through, I follow the path,
Ahh...I feel renewed. Thanks for that.
