House Finch Family in my backyard 6-6-12
June has been a very busy month for me with lots of family activities. Still, I did manage to squeeze in some birding time, especially in my backyard. These are just a few of the species I have enjoyed watching this month!
My feeders were full of birds today.
This yellow-shafted Northern Flicker flew in briefly yesterday.

While the male feeds on the ground beneath the feeder.
Then a newly fledged female chick tries it out! 6-26-12
The Robins have been gorging on mulberries from my neighbor’s tree!
This immature robin still has its breast spots 6-26-12
The inevitable Mourning Dove beneath the feeder 6-26-12
A male Red-bellied Woodpecker eyes me warily 6-26-12
Downy Woodpeckers are everywhere!
I am still getting a few grackles, but 6 are easier to deal with than the 40 I was seeing back in May!
Is there anything cuter than an upside down Nuthatch! 6-26-12
I have been seeing rose-breasted grosbeaks for about two weeks now but until today I had only seen males. I sat outside on my back porch watching birds for a couple of hours this mourning and was so surprised to see this…
A female Rose-breasted Grosbeak!
And then the male showed up!

Great collection of yardbirds, Kathie! I love the Grosbeak and the cute Cardinal juvie.
ReplyDeleteEileen, thanks! You always leave such good comments!
DeleteLovely collection of backyard bird pictures! Enjoyed each photo :)
ReplyDeleteKusum, I am glad you enjoyed them!
DeleteWow, you got some great shots, Kathie! Love the Grosbeak in flight!
ReplyDeleteheyBJK, I was surprised I was able to get that one. I just wish all of them were sharper. I've been a bit frustrated with my photography as of late. I keep trying different ways to improve.
DeleteA great series of photos and how wonderful to have such a variety of birds visiting your yard.
ReplyDeleteMick, since I live in a town with highways and train tracks all running nearby I am quite amazed at the birds that show up in my yard!
DeleteWhat an abundance of wonderful shots! You're definitely doing a great job at attracting birds, there's so much diversity!
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you! It is quite amazing to me as well!
DeleteLove that flicker!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGary, it only landed on that branch briefly. My sis was sitting on the porch with me and the bird was practically over her head. I raised my camera and snapped off only 2 shots! I sure would have liked time to focus better! This photo was the best of the two. I like the colors in it!
DeleteFinch pictures are great...your feeders are beautiful...and your seed mix is world class!
ReplyDeleteCheers Kathie!
Thanks Springman!
DeleteIt's like you wrote a companion piece to Pat's post today at BiF! Great backyard birds Kathie!
ReplyDeleteRobert, I noticed a lot of people are posting about their backyard birds. Must be the time of year!
DeleteLove all the shots! Lots of activity for sure. I had to scale way back on my feeders due to 30+ Brown-headed Cowbirds and 10 doves showing up at the same time, not only were they eating tons of seed each day, they were leaving their bird poop everywhere. Now things are more pleasant. ;-)
ReplyDeleteKathryn, I don't blame you! Who wants to feed a flock of cowbirds anyways! We have enough of them already! I'm glad things are more "pleasant" for you, so...should I head over for a cup of iced tea? (Wish I could!)
DeleteHi Katie...I sure hope you haven't been getting these crazy storms we have here!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post ..I loved seeing all your backyard bird in and out of that feeder ..I love that feeder by the way...can you tell where you got it..or is it just your secret ; }}
Great shot's,but my favorite is the next to last of the finches !!
Grace
Grace, I really liked the finch shots as well. As for the feeder, I bought it years ago at Target. I haven't seen it in awhile. I would love to buy one for my mom if I could find one again! As for the weather, today is was gray and cool. We had thunderstorms on Monday and a bit more sun yesterday with showers later in the day. Another heat wave is headed this way for the weekend. I'm going to try to stay cool!
DeleteWhat amazing birds you have. I especially like the Northern Flicker.
ReplyDeleteAdam, thanks! I like the flicker as well.
DeleteIt's a pleasure to view this wonderful post! You have a lot going on in your backyard. I just love the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. It's certainly fun to watch the youngsters feeding at this time of year. Glorious photographs, Kathie!
ReplyDeleteJulie, thank you! I am delighted to have the grosbeaks hanging around. I saw 2 males again today but I did not see the female this time.
DeleteGreat pictures, you have a wonderful variety of birds at your feeders.
ReplyDeleteGillian, I have more than I thought I would get!
