The Morning Mist Continues at Grand Prismatic Spring 9-11-13
After leaving the Fountain Paint pots we drove the short distance to the Grand Prismatic Spring. The whole world continued to steam and we looked through the mist at our surrounding as if viewing the world through a veil. More and more tourist started to arrive and our solitude slowly slipped away. In spite of the mists and the people, I still tried to count birds here.

The misty boardwalk around the spring.
A gauzy view of our surroundings.
The edge of a smaller hot spring.
I did not even try to take a picture of the Grand Prismatic spring since it was so large and had so much steam rising off of it. The day was still cool at this point and the warm steam felt good! As Gus and I headed back down the boardwalk toward the parking lot I heard a scream overhead and looked up just in time to catch a glimpse of an osprey flying home with breakfast! Can you see the fish in its talons?
An Osprey flying over the river with a fish in its talons.
Here you can see how the osprey has lined the fish up head first to be more aerodynamic!
The Robin is a bright orange ball at the water’s edge where it stopped by for a drink!
Birds seen at Grand Prismatic Spring:

That first photo is postcard perfect. Great shots of the osprey too.
