Update on Mom

1. Mom-kab Mom after her last chemo treatment 3-8-12

I spent most of last week down in CT spending time with my Mom and my sister. Mom had her last chemo treatment for breast cancer on Thursday, the 8th and this time she did very well with no allergic reactions.  Her cancer is a hormone driven type that is very aggressive and without treatment it would have had a 75% chance of reoccurrence. With the chemo and the forth-coming radiation she stands a 50/50 chance of reoccurrence. She will also be taking an estrogen blocker for the next 5 years. Still, Mom is quite strong and we and the doctors are all quite hopeful. She starts radiation in about a month.

It was a partly cloudy, but warm and gusty day the day Mom had her treatment. On our way home we took the back roads and and stopped at a local cemetery where our ancestors are buried. While we didn't stay long we did say pay our respects to her parents, which are also my grandparents. Hopefully it will be many more years before Mom goes to join them.

As for me, I was able to squeeze some birding time in before my return home late Friday night. I spent the weekend doing errands and spending time with my hubbie. While I have more chores and errands to do today, I do hope to squeeze in even more birding as it is such a warm and sunny day with the temperature predicted to rise into the high 60’s to low 70’s! Over the weekend I saw my first Wood Ducks of the year at Sacred Heart Park here in Andover. I counted 16 species there on Sunday afternoon and added my first Turkey Vultures to that list. Who knows what I will see next!

  4. I'm glad you did some birding. Your mom looks great and I hope things get better for her. Chemo is not fun. Even better is that you two spent some time together....and I can imagine the kind of conversation you both had....and I think that's very beautiful. Each day. Each moment is a gift. Hoping your Mom has a speedy recovery:)
