Bird Bath

While I was in Colchester I loved sitting in Mom’s backyard by her fountain. Not only was the sound soothing, but it also attracted all kinds of wildlife and birds. I often saw the squirrels, chipmunks, and stray cats getting a drink from her “bubbler” as she calls it, and almost every day I saw the robins and the song sparrows taking a bath in it.

Is there anything more joyful than a bathing bird?

Though this one does look a bit worried!

    1. Roy, they are so variable. Our western song sparrows can look so different form the eastern population and then there are others as well. I have seen some with a more gray face and buffy malar stripes and breast!

  2. Hi Kathie Is that the normal colouring of your Sparrows? It certainly was enjoying that bath although it was keeping its eye on you!

    1. Margaret, it is normal for the eastern variety of song sparrow. there are some regional variations in color of this particular species. We have many other sparrow species of a variety of colors and patterns. some easy to ID, some not so easy!

  3. The only thing more joyful that a bird bathing would be two birds bathing! Great captures. I love my song sparrows. They love jellies and jam!

  7. How lovely. Birds do like flowing water and the sound is music to my ears too.

  9. This little bird is a cutie:) So strange to think it's a backyard bird for many people. If I saw one here, I'd have a stroke!
